Lately, I have been hearing of complaints about the way certain aspects of the NDIS have changed. Most people have not given the NDIS formal feedback or made a complaint about their concerns. It can feel risky to rock the boat by making a complaint, however, it is essential we all have a say in order to help steer the NDIS in the right direction - that is, one that benefits all Australians.

NDIS complaints data
In the April-June 2016 Quarterly report provided information on complaints received by the NDIS. It reported that complaints can be lodged by participants, providers, organisations and members of the general community. It is important to note that complaints must be made in writing (either you write the complaint, or you can call and have the NDIS call centre type it up for you).
The NDIS reported 1408 complaints between April to June 2016. 84.7% were about the agency (10% of these were about the supports funded, 75% about the agency). In comparison, 2.6% of complaints were about providers. According to the report, there are 30 281 participants with approved plans. This means that 4.6% of participants have made a formal complaint.

A representative from the NDIS will call you within 2 business days to acknowledge your complaint, and will aim to resolve the complaint within 21 days.
If you are not happy with their response, you can make a complaint to the Ombudsman.
