Making sense of your notes after a conference is a daunting task! You either have a load of handwritten notes, which make sense only to you, or if (like I do) you live tweet, a jumble of tweets mixed in with the ‘backchannel’ live discussion. Finding the time to turn your notes into something that you can use once you are back at work, and share with your colleagues can be hard to do once you get back to work, and are trying to catch up on all of your emails…..
Livetweeting makes it easy to save all of your tweets in one place, but its not so easy to search through them… But I have found a solution.
In the lead up to the Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference (ILT2014) Megan Iemma (Presenting: A Power Users Guide to Evernote at ILT2014) shared with me that I could use Evernote to take notes, and to automatically save my tweets! Sounds like the perfect solution for me.
I’ve invested a little bit of time before the conference to set up an automatic note taking system using Twitter, the automation service If This Then That (IFTT) and Evernote.
Here’s how I did it:
1. Create a new notebook in Evernote, with the name of the event you are attending.
New to Evernote? Check out this quickstart guide.
2. Choose a unique tag to use for each session you are attending (this will create a new note for each session).
For a single day PD event with only one key topic, use one tag for the whole day. For a conference, you can have a unique #tag for each session, or have a theme #tag, such as #literacy or #AssistiveTech. Keep your tags as short as possible!
3. Set up an IFTT recipe for each unique #tag
